Eyes on Diversity High School Enrichment Program Code of Conduct

Due to the nature of the Eyes on Diversity program, a certain level of conduct will be expected in order to provide an environment that fosters learning and development. Students are expected to demonstrate their commitment to personal and educational growth by adhering to the rules set in place. Violation of the Code of Conduct will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. Disciplinary actions include: one verbal warning and one parent consultation which may lead to possible dismissal.

Attendance:

  • Students are expected to attend the full day program.
  • All absences/late arrivals must be reported directly to the Program Director by the parent/guardian.
  • Students are expected to arrive on campus by 8:45 am and classes will dismiss promptly at 4:00 pm.
  • Students are responsible for all transportation to and from campus.

Professional Behavior:

  • Students are expected to act professionally at all times.
  • To ensure that students are in an environment that is safe and conducive for learning, each student is expected to:
    • Demonstrate courtesy and respect for others.
    • Behave in a responsible manner, always exercising self-discipline.
    • Be prepared for an interactive learning environment.
    • Obey all campus and classroom rules established by the program and course instructor.
    • Respect the rights and privileges of all students, instructors, and other staff.
    • Respect the property of others, including campus property and facilities.
    • Cooperate with or assist the school staff in maintaining safety, order and discipline on campus.

Academic Responsibility:

  • Students will work diligently and participate fully within each course curriculum.
  • All activities must be completed during our time together

Dress Attire:

University of Missouri St Louis Student Safety Contract

"Laboratory Safety Guidelines and Rules" and other safety procedures to be followed in the science laboratories of University of Missouri St. Louis.

A science classroom can be a fascinating place. However, a science room has many potential hazards. It contains equipment and chemicals that can be dangerous if not handled properly. Safety in the science classroom is an important part of the scientific process. Read and know the safety guidelines.

Safety Guidelines

  1. When appropriate, eye protection, which must include side shields, must be worn at all times. Students without eye protection will not be allowed into the lab, and any student who consistently removes his/her eye protection will

    be dismissed from the lab. Eye protection provided by the Bridge Program.

  2. Keep equipment and work areas clean. All non-laboratory materials (other than lab notebooks/worksheets) should be kept away from workstations.

  3. Note the location and be familiar with the operation of any safety equipment. The instructor must be notified immediately in the event of an accident, even a minor one.

  4. All spills must be cleaned up appropriately.

  5. Consider every chemical dangerous. Avoid inhaling fumes, pipetting by mouth, tasting, touching, or smelling any chemical unless specifically told to do so by the instructor. If chemicals splash on skin or clothing, rinse immediately with large quantities of water.

  6. Check labels on containers carefully before removing any of their contents.

  7. Only pins and specimens are allowed in dissecting trays. Instruments not being used are to remain in the kit. Those in use are to be placed on a paper towel beside the tray.

  8. Always carry a microscope with both hands. Hold the arm with one hand; place the other hand under the base. Use indirect lighting with a microscope.

  9. Be sure all gas jets, electrical connections, and water faucets are turned off at the end of the class period. Discard only those liquids or solids in the sink as indicated by the instructor.

Safety Rules

  1. No rough play or practical jokes are permitted in the science classroom and laboratory.

  2. No lab work is allowed unless the instructor or teacher assistant is on duty.

  3. Never perform an unauthorized experiment nor use any equipment or instruments without proper guidance and supervision by an instructor. Follow all instructions given by the instructor including special directions for all individual experiments.

  4. Do not enter the stock/supply room.

  5. Nothing is to be taken from the laboratory unless checked out to you in writing by the instructor. No chemicals are to be removed from the lab.

  6. Never eat, drink or smoke anything in the lab at any time. Do not use lab containers for food and/or drink.

The Pre-Clinic classroom can be a fascinating place. However, it contains equipment that can be easily damaged if not handled properly. Safety in the pre-clinic classroom is an important part of the clinical skills process. Read and know the safety rules.

Safety Rules

  1. No rough play or practical jokes are permitted in the pre-clinic classroom.

  2. No lab work is allowed unless the instructor or teacher assistant is on duty.

  3. All exam equipment or instruments should not be used without proper guidance and supervision by an instructor.

  4. Nothing is to be taken from the pre-clinic area unless checked out to you in writing by the instructor.

  5. Never eat, drink or smoke anything in the pre-clinic classroom at any time.

  6. Be sure to return all equipment to its locked and proper position.
