Dr. Tonya Haynes joined the University of Missouri-St. Louis CON as an assistant teaching professor in fall of 2017. She teaches across programs providing both undergraduate and graduate-level instruction. In addition, Dr. Haynes serves as the Director of Clinical Operations for the CON. In this role, Dr. Haynes collaborates with colleagues and clinical partners to coordinate and develop opportunities that facilitate student application of theoretical knowledge and learned skills directly to practice. Dr. Haynes also serves as coordinator of the UMSL/BJC Nurse Externship Program, a partnership between the CON and BJC Healthcare System. She also serves as a member of various department-specific and campus-wide committees. Prior to the role of full-time faculty, Dr. Haynes served as an advanced practice nurse/ practice specialist in acute care medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH). Dr. Haynes’ experience as a clinician and nurse leader in both the acute care and academic settings has equipped her with a strong foundation in practice and quality improvement.

Implementation of strategies aimed at the prevention of 30-day hospital readmission of patients discharged from acute care settings
