Kate (Dwiggins) Watt joined the English Department faculty in 2013 after previously teaching at the Pierre Laclede Honors College and a number of other St. Louis area institutions. Kate teaches a variety of general education, online, and creative writing courses, including First Year Composition, Junior-Level Writing, Business Writing, Introduction to Creative Writing, and poetry/fiction workshops. She is the current faculty adviser for the student-run literary magazine, Litmag, and teaches corresponding courses on editing and publishing. She is also one of two faculty advisers for the undergraduate student organization, The UMSL Writers Group. Her other academic interests include comedy as rhetoric, gender studies and sexuality, nonfiction writing and women's memoir, urban studies, composition theory, online education and teaching with technology. An accomplished poet, Kate's poems have appeared in a wide range of literary journals, including the Crab Orchard Review, Atlantic Pacific Press, Apalachee Review, China Grove, Blue Collar Review and Barely South Review.
