Sylvia Cook teaches and writes about American culture, literature, and class studies. Courses she teaches include "Literature of the American South," "Modernism and Postmodernism, Wealth and Poverty in American Literature," and "City Fictions." Her latest book is Working Women, Literary Ladies: The Industrial Revolution and Female Aspiration. Previous publications include From Tobacco Road to Route 66: The Southern Poor White in Fiction and Erskine Caldwell and the Fiction of Poverty. She reviews books regularly for Studies in American Culture. Her current research interests are in Style, Self-Fashioning, and Class and in Cosmopolitanism and the Harlem Renaissance.
