The Faculty Senate and University Assembly of the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) are designated by the Collected Rules and Regulations of the University to exercise the functions delegated to them by the faculty as a whole. The Faculty Senate meets four times each semester and the University Assembly meets at least twice. The members of both Senate and Assembly consider important issues and make relevant decisions on behalf of the campus community, as well as provide advisory roles for the Chancellor and the University senior administration. The two bodies collectively represent the interests of the faculty, students, and staff of the University of Missouri-St. Louis -- a premier urban research university.
For the last several years it seems like the focus has been on addressing budget cuts, but I feel that we may finally be turning a corner. I am encouraged by the many positive changes about to take place on campus. This coming year we will witness long awaited new construction on campus with the Wellness Center and the Benton-Stadler renovation. UMSL will continue to celebrate its Jubilee -- 50 years of providing the St. Louis region with affordable education and cutting edge research.
I look forward to serving as Chair of the Faculty Senate in 2013-2014 and will work hard to forward the goals of the faculty, staff and students of the University of Missouri-St. Louis and support the University in service to St. Louis and the State of Missouri.
