December 9, 2024 - Celebrating Our Semester’s Achievements and Looking Ahead

Dear UMSL Community,

As we reach the close of the fall semester, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work and accomplishments of our students, faculty and staff. This has been a semester marked by dedication, collaboration and progress—qualities that define the University of Missouri–St. Louis and its people.

First, let me extend my heartfelt congratulations to our more than 900 December graduates who will cross the stage this Saturday at our commencement ceremonies. This milestone represents years of hard work, resilience and determination, and we couldn’t be more proud of all you have achieved. You join a powerful network of over 117,000 UMSL alumni who are making a difference in their communities and beyond.

To our faculty and staff, thank you for your unwavering commitment to our students and our mission. Your passion and perseverance inspire the success of those we serve and help propel our university forward. You have been instrumental in navigating this time of transformation as we continue to reshape and revitalize our physical campus.

The progress we’ve made this semester—from the deconstruction of the SSB Tower to prepare for a state-of-the-art facility to house the College of Education and the Honors College to the ongoing construction of the Richter Family Welcome and Alumni Center, University Libraries, AAB and much more—represents not just physical change but an investment in the future of UMSL. These projects reflect our vision for a more connected, sustainable and innovative campus that supports our students’ success and amplifies our impact on the St. Louis region.

As we look ahead to the spring semester, I encourage you all to carry the spirit of resilience and collaboration that has defined this year. Together, we will continue to transform lives, our campus and our community. Thank you for all that you contribute to making UMSL a place of opportunity and excellence. Wishing you a restful and joyful holiday season, and I look forward to seeing all we will accomplish in the year ahead.

Gratefully forward,

Kristin Sobolik
