Message from the Office of the Chancellor

March 9, 2022 - Search opens for Vice Chancellor for University Advancement

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the launch of a national search for the university’s next Vice Chancellor for University Advancement who will serve as UMSL's chief fundraising officer and oversee fundraising activities including donor and alumni engagement, corporate and foundation activities, and advancement services. The position profile has been posted on the UMSL Executive Searches website and we ask that you disseminate this information across your networks as appropriate.

In keeping with our commitment to recruiting for inclusive excellence at all levels, the search process will be led by the University of Missouri System Executive Recruitment team in partnership with our Office of Human Resources and our Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. I am grateful to the members of the search committee, chaired by Chief of Staff Adella Jones, who will begin reviewing applications immediately and continue until an adequate pool is established as they seek to bring top candidates to campus for interviews and open forums to garner feedback.

Additionally, I am grateful for Rebecca Cole who joined UMSL as interim vice chancellor for university advancement in July. As a seasoned executive with extensive experience in higher education and health care philanthropy, she has provided stable leadership to our advancement operations, which has already led to a dramatic increase in giving levels from the prior fiscal year. Rebecca, who came out of retirement to support this leadership transition, will return to retirement this spring as we engage in this important search for a permanent vice chancellor for university advancement.

Additional information for the search is available at https://www.umsl.edu/searches/. Thank you in advance for your active engagement and participation in this process as we move forward.

Sincerely,

Kristin Sobolik
Chancellor
