September 30, 2019 - UMSL Month of Community Giving
Dear UMSL Faculty and Staff,
Our annual UMSL Month of Community Giving begins this week! Throughout October, UMSL will participate in the United Way of Greater St. Louis and the Community Health Charities campaigns. This is one effort to create a stronger community through collaboration, investment and service. UMSL is a community engaged university, and we work in many ways to strengthen and support the great work being done by our community partners to create a region where people can thrive. I encourage you to demonstrate your support by taking part in this important campaign.
Information can be found at www.umsl.edu/monthofgiving/, where you will find pledge materials and a link for online donations. Most UMSL employees will receive a donation packet in early October with information about Community Health Charities and the United Way. Be sure to take a look at the many charities that these two organizations support. You might be surprised to see the diverse list of affiliated organizations.
Community Health Charities exists to empower people to take action to improve health and well-being. CHC supports the education, treatment, and prevention of those with health challenges; brings together the community to improve health; provides individuals with opportunities to get involved, and increases the capacity of nonprofit partners. Their commitment is to build stronger, healthier communities.
The United Way of Greater St. Louis raises funds to support more than 160 health and human service agencies to serve 1 million people in our region each year. United Way agencies strengthen families, provide job counseling and training, offer affordable childcare, help the elderly, and more.
I have asked Patricia Zahn, director of Community Outreach and Engagement, to again coordinate our campus efforts this year. Interested employees can start payroll deductions to support these charitable organizations beginning in January. If you have any questions or would like to assist with the campaign, please contact Patricia Zahn at 314-516-5267 or by email at zahnp@umsl.edu.
Best regards,
Kristin Sobolik
