Anna Heinzmann is a PhD student in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri - St. Louis. She holds a Master’s in Criminal Law and Criminology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul and a Law degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande. Before joining the doctoral program in 2023, Anna practiced law in Brazil, working as a private attorney and with the public defender's office and district attorney's office, in criminal courts, Domestic Violence courts and corrections. Her research interests include courts and sentencing, prosecutorial decision-making, gender-based violence, comparative criminal justice, and Global South. She is currently working on a project investigating criminal justice responses to sexual violence in the United States.
