Janet L. Lauritsen is Curators' Distinguished Professor Emerita in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri -St. Louis. Her research focuses on the causes and consequences of victimization, the social and historical contexts of crime and victimization, and quantitative research methodologies and data. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, and the National Institute of Justice. Dr. Lauritsen served as Chair of the Panel on Modernizing the Nation's Crime Statistics for the Committee on National Statistics of the National Academies of Sciences. In 2013, she was named Fellow of the American Society of Criminology. She served as Co-Editor of the flagship journal Criminology from 2018-2020, and as President of the American Society of Criminology in 2022.
