Thomas M. Kozloski, Ph.D.

Tom Kozloski served on the faculty at UMSL from 2000 to 2003, and rejoined the faculty in 2017, after teaching accounting and auditing at universities in Canada for 14 years. His teaching interests include financial accounting, auditing, and forensic accounting and auditing. He has received a number of teaching awards in recognition of his efforts in the classroom, including the highest award for teaching excellence offered at the Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (the Stewart Medal). In addition to this award, Tom was twice named Commerce Professor of the Year at Saint Mary’s University.

Tom’s research interests are in the area of judgment and decision-making in accounting and auditing, fraud and fraudulent financial reporting, and ethics in accounting and auditing. His research has been presented to auditing regulators in the United States and at academic conferences in Canada, the United States, and Europe. He has published his research in various scholarly journals, including Research in Accounting Regulation; Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Accounting Horizons, the Journal of Forensic and Investigative Accounting, and Current Issues in Auditing. In 2008, Tom and his co-authors won the prestigious American Accounting Association / Deloitte Wildman Medal, a national research award for a significant contribution to the advancement of the practice of public accounting.

Prior to his university teaching and research career, Tom worked for large international accounting and consulting firms as an auditor providing financial statement auditing services to a wide range of clients, and then as a consultant to financially troubled companies and their creditors and to law firms engaged in complex business litigation. His business career was preceded by military service as an armor officer in the United States Army, during which time he held line and staff positions in armor units in the Republic of Korea and the continental United States.

Tom is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Pennsylvania in the United States. He is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
