David R. Ganz is a native of Saint Louis. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Saint Louis University, both with concentrations in accounting; and did post-graduate work in that field at the University of Missouri in Columbia, following which he joined the faculty of the Saint Louis campus of the University of Missouri in 1966. While at the University of Missouri – Saint Louis, in addition to teaching, he served as Dean of Student Affairs (1969 – 1972); as Coordinator of the Accounting program (1981 – 1987), and as Associate Dean and Director of Undergraduate Studies of the College of Business Administration (1988 – 2007). He presently serves as Alumni and Constituent Relations Coordinator for the College of Business Administration. Having recently completed his fiftieth year with the University of Missouri–Saint Louis, he now serves quarter time having officially retired in December of 2002.
Ganz has received several of the campus’ awards for excellence: the Alumni Association’s Most Outstanding Faculty Member Award (1969); the Amoco Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching (1976); the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service (1994); a campus Distinguished Service Award (2002) and the UMSL Alumni Association’s You Make a Difference Award (2003). In 2010 he was the initial inductee into the UMSL Accounting Hall of Fame. He is an emeritus member of the American Accounting Association and a member of several honorary and professional organizations, including Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi. He has a very extensive service record at UMSL and is active with several social and civic organizations in the St. Louis area.
During his post-graduate studies Ganz did research on the development of the CPA profession in Missouri. His research efforts served as background for a monograph published by the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) as part of its 75th anniversary celebration. In appreciation and recognition of his contribution, the Board of Directors of the MSCPA voted to bestow honorary membership on him in 1983.
