Dr. Marcia Countryman, Associate Teaching Professor in Accounting, received the Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award, the highest award for teaching at UMSL, in 2021. She is a CPA and holds a certificate in Effective College Instruction from the Association of College and University Educators. She has been teaching at UMSL since 2010.
Dr. Countryman attended Saint Louis University receiving a Ph.D. in Business Administration, Northern Illinois University receiving an MBA, and Illinois College receiving an undergraduate degree in Accounting. Prior to her university teaching, she worked as a CPA in Chicago.
Dr. Countryman is the sponsor of the UMSL Accounting Club. She works to bring professionals to campus to provide students a glimpse into the CPA profession in both public and private practice. She teaches synchronous online, 100% online and in-person Managerial Accounting courses in the undergraduate program. In the MBA program, Dr. Countryman teaches the key principles to produce, understand, analyze, and communicate accounting information.
Dr. Countryman loves to work with students. She is passionate about accounting and the accounting profession. She is an innovator and leader in the use of technology in instruction in an effort to improve student outcomes. She motivates and inspires student achievement through personalized learning experiences. Student success is a top priority for Dr. Countryman.
