Project Guidelines
Grading rubric (wiki
help)
- Create Personal Wiki Page: Due by Wednesday, February 3, 11:59 PM (20 points)
- You
can access the class wiki by opening the "Technology and Society Wikis" content area in our class MyGateway site's course navigation menu, or within the "Critical Thinking Project" content area, you can access the class wiki sites. Find yours, based on the spelling of your last name, open it and click the "Add New Page" button to start working. When creating new pages in the wiki, ALWAYS name your pages using the following format: "your last name, your first name-descriptor for the page." After you have created your personal wiki page click save and exit, return to the wiki home page and make your name a link to your personal page.
- What to include on your personal page:
- Provide a bit of information about yourself and
other interests you might have. Discuss your understanding of technology and its effect on your sense of self and social relationships. We expect a minimum of 150 words.
- Experiment with the different features
of the wiki--add a minimum of 3 external links to web pages you find interesting or relevant to the class and provide a brief description of the sites.
- Add some internal links (links to pages in the wiki, again, a minimum of 4). Link back to the "home
page" and create and link to additional pages for parts 1, 2, and 3 or the project. Your part 1, 2, and 3 pages should have links back to your personal page and to the wiki's home page. ALWAYS name your pages using the following format: "your last name, your first name-descriptor for the page." You can also link to other students' pages, if you like.
- Add a few images (mimimum 3)--especially a picture of yourself.
- Update this
page throughout the semester and always insure that your links to your part 1, 2, and 3 pages are working properly. This is where the grader goes to access your work on the
assignment. Credit will not be given for individual work if it is not
linked on the personal wiki page.
- For help creating a personal wiki page, see Prof. Keel's video tutorials on "Working in a Wiki, "making links," and "inserting images" in the Wiki Help folder of the class MyGateway
site (Critical Thinking Projects). See also: Wiki Help and Tips and the "Wiki User's Guide." Be sure to review the changes made to the wikis since I last updated these tutorials.
- Leave comments on other students' pages to provide help and assistance and
point out minor edits that need to be done, etc.
- Be sure
to complete the "E-mail Feedback Consent." You can find the e-mail
feedback consent "test" in the Critical Thinking Project area of the class MyGateway
site.
- Until you give consent, you will have to visit Prof. Keel or a TA to receive
full feedback on the project.
Be sure to correctly cite all information used from research
resources (in-text citations and a list of references for each page) using the ASA manuscript submission guide (local copy with web citation guidelines or a full version of the ASA Style Guide). Additional assistance with referencing online resources
can be found here.
Also, remember we are undertaking an academic activity, so please refrain from
using opinion, unreliable or invalid resources, sensationalism,
and other non-academic practices. See academic integrity statement and Turnitin information.
