About UMSL SOS
Linking University to Community!
UMSL Students of Service is a three year initiative, funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The mission of Students of Service is to increase the capacity of UMSL for meaningful and effective community service and service-learning, and to engage UMSL students in the development of a range of service opportunities aimed at addressing pressing housing and education needs in surrounding communities.
UMSL Students of Service in partnership with Beyond Housing, the Normandy School District and other community based organizations, will create service projects and service learning courses that provide foreclosure prevention activities, nonprofit capacity building, neighborhood improvement efforts and mentoring and tutoring programs for the surrounding communities. UMSL SOS will engage more than 1,400 students in over 23,000 hours of service during the three year grant period.
UMSL Students of Service is administered at UMSL by the College of Education and the Community Partnership Project, in cooperation with the Office of Student Life, the Center for Teaching and Learning and the School of Social Work.
