Chapter 45, Drill a: Practice using subjunctives in main clauses.

The main verb(s) in each of the short sentences below can be expressed by one of the main-clause uses of the subjunctive. Provide the main verb(s), with ne, non, utinam, utrum . . . an, etc. if necessary:

Let's pretend. Answer: simulemus

1. Would that [i.e. I wish] the bore had not followed after/pursued me! [use persequor]
2. What am I to say? [use dico]
3. Let them not neglect their work. [use omitto]
4. Would that someone had rescued me!
5. I wish someone would rescue me!
6. I wish we were living in peace! [vivo]
7. Let us live!
8. Let us love!
9. Let him do it!
10. What should I think? [use puto]
11. What should I be thinking about? [use meditor]
12. I wish that that bore were not seizing [snatching up] my hand! [use arripio]
13. I wish I might send away/dismiss this bore.
14. Let's go.
15. Is she to let go or to pursue? [a double question, wondering what to do]
16. I wish I had followed.
17. I wish you [plural] were thinking about it now. [use meditor]
18. We would like to think about it.
19. Quintus would prefer to go.
20. They would not wish to go.
21. He would not dare.
