Creating Online Bibliographies
Introduction

by Raleigh Muns (muns@umsl.edu)

For the purposes of this session, the term "online bibliography" will be defined as:

A document accessible on the World Wide Web containing the necessary hypertext links, or descriptive information, allowing the user to access the full-text of an accurately cited document.

The Ideal

A universal link which when clicked will take the user directly to the full-text of an article or book. Example:

"Teacher's - Post-Secondary." Occupational Outlook Handbook 2002-03 Edition. Washington, D.C. : The Bureau, 2002. pp. 197-200.

The Reality

Dynamically changing links to restricted articles or books in unstable databases. Example:

Brown, Tim. "An Epic Hurdle." Los Angeles Times (Home Edition). June 3, 2002, p. 1
