The University has provided information to the world via the Internet for several years. Internet presence and experience is not a new endeavor at UM-St. Louis. The Library's "gopher" information service is currently averaging more than 100,000 accesses per month.
Interesting fact: More than ninety percent of all UM-St. Louis gopher users are outside the state of Missouri; the single largest group of users are subscribers to the America Online commercial information service.
One of the world's leading experts on artificial intelligence and the Internet, Nicholas Negroponte, points out that information content will be the key to the future. The following examples are existing resources available to all individuals on the Inter net right now.
