The UMSL Computer Program (UCP) enables UMSL faculty and staff the ability to receive a computer with access to the suite of standard campus software to meet the university's business and academic needs.  The program offers a package that will provide workplace flexibility and mobility, while simultaneously eliminating the need for users to have multiple computing devices. Computers and associated peripherals will be replaced on an as-needed basis after a minimum of five years, or when they have reached the end of life as determined by Information Technology Services (ITS).

Steps to Order a New System

  1. Visit https://help.umsl.edu/.
  2. Login using your SSO ID and password.
  3. Select “IT Procurement”.
  4. Select "Place an Order".
  5. Choose "Order a UCP Laptop".
  6. Select if you are a “new user” or “replacement for existing user”.
  7. Make your laptop choice of either Dell or Apple.
  8. Enter your user information and make selections from the options.
  9. Click the “submit” button to create a ticket for your order.
  10. Please allow up to 45 days for ordering and installation.
Please note: Orders will be processed and systems will be scheduled for installation as soon as feasible. "Emergency replacements" will take priority. Please allow 45 business days for order processing and installation preparation.


Moving a Computer to Another Location

Requesting to move a computer from one location to another can easily be done by logging into the Cherwell request system and completing the Computer/Phone Move request form. The form allows for requesting for yourself or on behalf of someone else.  Please collect the following information before submitting a request form:

  • computer serial number 
  • current building
  • current room
  • current data port number (if accessible)
  • new building
  • new room
  • new data port number (if accessible)
  • phone extension (if applicable)

Many computers also have a ShoreTel IP phone connected to them.  If the phone will need to be moved as well, please have the campus extension of the phone to be moved readily when submitting a request form.

Once the request form has been submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the UCP department and/or unit contact.

Request to Reassign

Requesting to reassign a computer to another employee can easily be done by logging into the Cherwell request system and completing the Computer/Phone Changing User request form.  The form allows for requesting for yourself or on behalf of someone else.  Please collect the following information before submitting a request form:

  • computer serial number
  • current building
  • current room
  • phone extension (if applicable)

Many computers also have a ShoreTel IP phone connected to them.  If the phone will need to be reassigned as well, please have the campus extension of the phone to be reassigned ready when submitting a request form.

Once the request form has been submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the UCP department and/or unit contact.
