Volunteer Fairs
In addition to creating group projects for students to go in the community, we provide opportunities for community organizations to connect on campus through our annual fall volunteer fair and a two-day fair in the spring.
Fall
The fall volunteer fair takes place outdoors in covered, carnival-style booths. The 2020 fair is on Thursday, September 3 from 11:00-1:30 on the Millennium Student Center Patio and Commons on North Campus. Registration will open July 1 and close on Friday, August 14.
Spring
The two-day, topic-based, indoor fair takes place on the high-traffic second floor of our student center. This fair is an especially great time to engage future volunteers for summer service opportunities. The 2020 fair will be held on April 21-22. Registration will open in March.
Annual Projects
The Big Event
The Big Event! is a one-day service project sponsored by SGA and UMSL Students of Service where we generally engage 75 or more students, staff, and faculty at one location to serve for approximately three hours, typically from 10-1. We provide the tools (within reason and budget) and people-power to accomplish the project. Non-profit organizations and community organizations apply to be sites for the day. The deadline to apply for this year's project is July 26.
MLK Day of Service
MLK Day of Service connects UMSL students, community partners and service organizations for a day of service activities on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. UMSL Students of Service provides all materials necessary to complete the project (within budget and capacity), as well as the volunteers.
Non-profit organizations and community organizations apply to be sites for the day. Applications open on August 1, 2019 and close on October 1.
Other Ways to Connect
UMSL Students of Service organizes monthly projects, known as Service Saturdays, and occasionally coordinates projects outside of our traditional projects and dates. Each semester we open our Service Interest Form for non-profit and community organizations to identify the ways in which they want to engage with us. Additionally, we use this form to disseminate your opportunities to the UMSL community. We will start accepting submissions for Fall 2019 soon.
