UMSL Safe Zone
The UMSL Safe Zone program serves to identify and train faculty, staff, and students who are sensitive and affirmative to the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and intersex persons. Our ultimate goal is to reduce the incidence of heterosexism and homophobia on our campus, and thereby promote a campus that is a safer and freer place for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
PRIZM Queer - Straight Alliance
PRIZM is UMSL’s Queer -Transgender– Straight Alliance. It is our goal to create and maintain an inclusive, safe, and accepting environment on our campus for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We aim to defeat negative stereotypes and educate people by sponsoring special events and activities on campus throughout the school year.
Lounge in the Gender Studies Suite
The Gender Studies Suite, located in 494 Lucas Hall, is designed to be a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ students and allies. The suite houses a student lounge equipped with coloring books, games, a microwave, and an LGBTQ+ lending library. It is a great space for LGBTQ+ students and allies to socialize, study, or rest.
Gender-neutral and All-gender Facilities
The Millennium Student Center holds 5 gender-neutral restrooms on the first floor north wing of the building. Two of the restrooms also include baby-changing stations. A family room is also located in the same area and includes comfortable furniture, a baby changing station, a sink, and space for nursing mothers.
The Student Recreation and Wellness Center also has a gender-neutral and family-friendly locker room with single-use toilet and shower located on the first floor. Gender-neutral/all-gender facilities will be considered in all new campus construction.
Gender Inclusive Housing
The University of Missouri -St. Louis strives to provide comfortable, diverse, and safe housing options for all students living in university housing. Gender-neutral housing is housing in which members of the opposite gender live together in a living unit/apartment. This option is offered only to upper-class students. If you are interested in gender-neutral housing, please contact the Central Housing Office at (314)516-6877 or reslife@umsl.edu for more information and availability.]
