Equal Employment/Educational Opportunity (students, faculty and staff)
Equal Opportunity is and shall be provided for all employees and applicants for employment on the basis of their demonstrated ability and competence without unlawful discrimination on the basis of their race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, genetic information, disability or protected veteran status. This policy shall not be interpreted in such a manner as to violate the legal rights of religious organizations or the recruiting rights of military organizations associated with the Armed Forces or the Department of Homeland Security of the United States of America.
Student Discrimination Grievance Procedures (students only)
It is the policy of the University of Missouri to provide equal opportunity for all enrolled students and applicants for admission to the University on the basis of merit without unlawful discrimination as stated in the Equal Employment/Educational Opportunity Policy in Section 320.010. This policy shall not be interpreted in such a way as to violate the legal rights of religious organizations or the recruiting rights of military organizations associated with the Armed Forces or the Department of Homeland Security of the United States of America.
To insure compliance with this policy, all University of Missouri prospective or enrolled students shall have available to them this student discrimination grievance procedure for resolving complaints and/or grievances regarding alleged discrimination.
Administrative,Service and Support Staff Grievances (staff only)
The University recognizes the right of employees to express their grievances and to seek a solution concerning disagreements arising from working relationships, working conditions, employment practices or differences of interpretation of policy which might arise between the University and its employees. A regular employee may process a grievance regarding any of these matters upon completion of their probationary period. A probationary or non-regular employee may process a grievance concerning issues of prohibited discrimination or application or interpretation of University policies and procedures.
Academic Grievance Procedures (faculty only)
The Board of Curators, the faculty, and the administration of the University of Missouri recognize the importance of providing a prompt and efficient procedure for fair and equitable resolutions of grievances with the University without fear of prejudice or reprisal for initiating a grievance or participating in its settlement. To the extent possible, all grievances should be settled through informal discussions at the lowest administrative level, and disputed
matters should be processed as formal grievances only when either party feels that a fair and equitable solution has not been reached in the informal discussions.
UMSL is proud to offer a preferred name option for students. If a student decides to add a preferred name, the preferred name will be displayed in the MyView Student Center, faculty class roster, and grade roster. Adding a preferred name does not change a student’s official name as a part of their educational record. A student’s official name is their legal name, which will always be used for financial aid, transcripts, international student I-20s and other documents required by the University.
Preferred names can be added to your student account by accessing the self-service student center in MyView.
