Peter A. Heithaus, Associate Vice Chancellor, Human Resources
Peter joined UMSL in April 1998 with 34 years experience in Human Resources management. This includes Vice President of HR in the corporate world as well as extensive HR management experience in corporate and healthcare. His responsibilities include directing all HR and Volunteer Services functions. He handles most employee relations and policy issues directly, serves as the grievance hearing officer, is available for consultation on all HR matters, and is available to provide or arrange training in all HR areas. In addition to attending law school, Peter holds an MEd in Counseling, and a BA in English.

Nancy J. Draper, Office Supervisor
Nancy's responsibilities include monitoring the HR department E&E budget, processing vouchers and purchase orders, tracking expenses, maintaining all office equipment, processing journal entries for online payroll checks, and creating and updating department inventory. In addition, she works on special communications such as the HR newsletter and monthly reports for the Director, and special projects including the Chancellor's Award, Employee of the Month, HR Interdepartmental Partnership, grievance hearings, and helping to prepare for management training sessions. In the recruitment area, Nancy posts department staff positions, places ads, administers pre-employment testing, and provides notary services for the campus. Prior to coming to UMSL HR in May 1998, Nancy was with Boeing where she worked in the Financial Controls department, and with the St. Louis Public Schools in the District Superintendent's Office.

Errol Benson, Associate Director of Human Resources
Errol came to UMSL in August 1995. With over 33 years experience in Human Resources and Payroll at the university and with the military, Errol manages the Payroll and Records functions for HR. He represents UMSL on the UM System-wide Core Team on system updates and changes, as well as the tax committee to address issues that affect all campuses. He reviews, writes and provides training to the campus on HR functions and procedures. He also is the security focal point for access to all HR systems. Errol holds a master's degree in Personnel and Business Administration.

Joann Westbrook, Manager, Employee Benefits
Joann joined UMSL HR in April 1978 and has worked in various capacities in HR since then. In managing the Benefits area of HR, her responsibilities include ensuring there is accurate communication to all employees about benefits, workers' compensation, safety issues, Post-Offer Pre-employment Testing (POET), FMLA, ADA, Wellness Consulting, and policy and procedure interpretation. Joann is available to assist in any capacity of HR in the absence of any management staff in the HR department.

Jenny Workman, Program Manager
Jenny has worked for the University of Missouri for more than 13 years and has been employed by Healthy for Life since its inception. Housed on the Columbia Campus, her responsibilities include coordinating health and wellness activities and programs for faculty and staff at UM System, Mizzou, MU Extension, UMSL and at Missouri S&T. Some of those programs include the Million Step Pedometer Program, Ride to Wellness Odometer Program, Weight Watchers at Work and the annual faculty and staff wellness fairs and flu clinics. In addition, Jenny has helped developed classes and workshops that focus on physical activity, weight management, tobacco cessation and stress reduction. Prior to coming to the Healthy for Life, she worked as the Center Director for The Health Connection with the School of Health Professions at Mizzou. Jenny has a bachelor's degree from Mizzou and has held various nutrition and exercise certifications.

Tara VanDeVoorde, Senior HR Specialist

Tara VanDeVoorde joined UMSL Human Resources in May 2011. She assists with recruitment, compensation, and organizational development. Tara has worked in human resources for 8 years with experience in recruitment, training, process improvement, and compensation. She obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Management from Northern Illinois University in 2003 and a Master's Degree in Human Resource Management in 2009.

Audra Gall, HR Specialist III
Audra joined the Human Resources Department as a Human Resources Specialist III in September 2013. Audra will be responsible for recruitment activities, and will be heavily involved in compensation and performance management. One of her early assignments will be to assist the University of Missouri System and other campuses in the development of an on-line performance appraisal system. Audra was previously an HR Generalist in healthcare. She brings with her over four years experience in Human Resources, including recruitment, compensation structure development, performance management, new employee and manager training, HR administration, and HRIS. Audra has a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communications; Corporate & Organizational Track with a minor in Psychology. She intends on completing her Master’s at UMSL.

Talia Gholson, HR Specialist I, Records
Talia began working in HR at the university's Columbia campus immediately after she graduated in 2000 and then came to UMSL HR in November 2002. Her responsibilities with Staff Records include reviewing and entering all staff PAFs and Additional Pay forms, working with departments to resolve issues, and making sure that proper procedures are followed. For Payroll, she processes Monthly Exception forms and general deductions, as well as overpayments, direct deposits, vacation/sick leave maintenance forms, and Change of Address forms; verifies reporting data; creates monthly payroll calendars; conducts payroll audits; and works with departments to resolve pay issues. Talia also conducts the New Employee Orientation and welcomes all new staff upon arrival for completion of their paperwork. In addition, Talia is the HR liaison to the Staff Association Council, of which she has been a member for four years. Talia holds a BA in Latin and Classical Studies with a minor in English Literature, and is currently pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in Management.

Jessica Schoemehl, OSSIII
Jessica joined the Human Resources Department in May 2013.  Jessica transferred from the Cashier's Office on the Columbia campus.  In addition to her experience with the University of Missouri, Jessica brings considerable private sector experience in human resources, training, inventory, auditing, and retail management.  Jessica's primary responsibilities will include PAF and personnel records review and processing, and assisting with the data imaging of existing personnel records. 

Pat Camp
, HR Assistant, Benefits
Pat was hired by UMSL's Budget Office in October 1985. She then transferred to Human Resources in April 1996 in began working in Benefits in January 2001. Her responsibilities include assisting employees with questions or issues related to benefits, enrollments, retirement estimates, workers' compensation, and FMLA. Pat retired in June 2007 and is currently working part-time.

Karen Cedeck, HR Assistant, Payroll
Karen came to UMSL HR in February 1995. Her responsibilities in payroll include transaction processing (including data entry, timesheet verification, vacation maintenance tax adjustments, direct deposits, W4 forms, change of address forms, and deductions), payroll audits, and policy application. She works on special projects including campus distribution and invoices for Service awards, Employee of the Month, and is a Volunteer of the Month committee member. In addition, she is responsible for coordinating the assignment of mentors to new employees. Prior to coming to UMSL, Karen worked as a payroll clerk at Christian Hospital and an office manager for her husband's business. She also worked at McDonnell Douglass in cost accounting and accounts receivable. Karen holds an associate's degree in Preschool Education and is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree at UMSL.

Nyonia Frye, HR Assistant
Nyonia started with the university in Columbia in October 1977 and came to UMSL in August 1978. Her responsibilities include handling I-9 forms, employment verifications, and sending out performance appraisal forms. She assists with data entry and filing as needed. After 30 years with the university, Nyonia retired in May 2007 and is currently working part-time.

Eileen Holmes, HR Assistant, Front Desk/Staff Records
Eileen joined UMSL in September 2007. Her responsibilities include receptionist at the front desk, processing updates to employee records, assisting applicants with applications, and distributing mail and other documents to office areas.

LaQuita Jackson , HR Assistant, Benefits
Since joining UMSL in May 2007, LaQuita is responsible for benefits enrollments, clarification of benefits plans, New Employee Orientation (benefits), completing reports, and resolving employee issues related to benefit coverage, identification cards, and general benefits concerns.
