Course Design Institute

2019 Series:
Tuesday, May 21 - Thursday, May 23; 8:30 - 4:30 PM;

Are you teaching a new course next year? Or ready to redesign one you’ve already taught? Interested in aligning the components of your course to intentionally foster significant student learning? If so, come and join colleagues from across campus in an intensive three-day working institute. Together participants will focus on the role of course design in the overall act of teaching; write learning outcomes that will provide focus for the course activities and assessment. By the end of the week, participants will have substantial work completed towards a new or revised course design.

During the institute, participants will:

Read materials in preparation for each day
Attend and participate in all four days of the institute
Make a plan for teaching and learning activities, assessment of student learning, and providing student feedback in the target course

Participants will have time to focus on enhancing student learning in one particular course. Participants will also receive benefit of collegial conversations and brainstorms with faculty from across campus.

Full-time faculty and instructors are eligible to apply for the Summer Course Design Institute. Adjunct faculty who have taught at UMSL for at least one semester and who will be teaching at UMSL next year are also eligible. Graduate students with substantial course responsibilities are also welcome to apply.

Your application indicates you can meet the expectations described above. Applications should be completed using the online form. We will begin reviewing applications on Friday, April 12th. If open seats remain beyond that date, we will entertain additional applications until Friday, May 10th. No applications will be accepted after May 10th.
