The UMSL Department of Music offers a variety of undergraduate degrees and extraordinary performance opportunities that prepare students for careers as teachers, performers, and scholars.

Students choose from a wide range of areas of study and benefit from individualized instruction by dedicated faculty members who are renowned artists/teachers, scholars, and educators. Both majors and non-majors have the opportunity to participate in numerous ensembles, from small chamber groups to a full-size orchestra, choir, and wind ensemble.

We present regular concerts and recitals, which are open to all; we work with area K-12 schools; we offer workshops and camps for student musicians and educators.

Musicians at the University of Missouri–St. Louis chuckle as Assistant Teaching Professor David Wacyk takes the stage dressed up as Marty McFly, Michael J. Fox's famous character from the classic 1985 movie "Back to the Future," to conduct the UMSL Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble's end-of-semester concert, "UMSL at the Movies," on May 13 in the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center.
