The St. Louis Mercantile Library is located inside the Thomas Jefferson Library building in the center of the north campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis. 

To visit the library, you will first need to obtain a parking pass from the Parking and Transportation Office. The pass is $1.00 and entitles you to park for the day at any lot on campus.  You must get the pass the day of your visit to the library.

To get to the Parking and Transportation office from Highway I-70, traveling east:

Exit Highway I-70 at Exit 240 (University Boulevard) and turn right onto University Boulevard, continuing on University Boulevard. Turn right onto Grobman Drive. The office is located in the Police Department on your right, at 44 Campus Police Building, adjacent to the Metro Link North Platform and Gallery 210. 

To get to the Parking and Transportation office from Highway I-70, traveling west:

Exit Highway I-70 at Exit 240 (University Boulevard) and turn left onto University Boulevard, continuing on University Boulevard. Turn right onto Grobman Drive. The office is located in the Police Department on your right, at 44 Campus Police Building, adjacent to the Metro Link North Platform and Gallery 210.  

To get to the Parking and Transportation office from Highway I-170, traveling north or south:

Exit Highway I-170 at the Natural Bridge Exit (#6) and turn right (east).  Continue on Natural Bridge Road through the Hanley Road intersection and past West Drive. Turn left onto University Drive. Turn right onto Grobman Drive. The office is located in the Police Department on your left, at 44 Campus Police Building, adjacent to the Metro Link North Platform and Gallery 210. 


To get to the Mercantile Library from the Parking and Transportation Office:

Take a left onto Florissant Road. Head north on Florissant; it will turn into University Boulevard. Take a left onto University Place Drive. Take a left onto Mark Twain Drive. Take a right onto West Drive.  Follow West Drive until you come across the West Drive Parking Garage on your left. Once parked, go to the third floor of the garage, which will be ground level with a quadrangle. Facing the quadrangle, the Mercantile Library is on your left, in the Thomas Jefferson Library Building to the right of the glass pyramid.

GarageTo visit the library, you will first need to obtain a day parking pass from the Parking and Transportation Office. The pass is $1.00 and entitles you to park for the day at any lot on campus.  You must get the pass the day of your visit to the library. 

On Saturday and Sunday, visitors may park anywhere on campus except Handicap spaces, Service Vehicle spaces or non-designated areas.

Visitors with valid day passes, or visiting on the weekends can park close to the Thomas Jefferson Library (bldg. 14) in the West Drive Parking Structure South (bldg. 52); walk out of the garage at the third floor (quadrangle level) exit near the elevator and the Library (bldg. 14) is the building to the right of the pyramid-shaped skylight (no. 12).

Arriving from Lambert International Airport:

Transportation is easily available from the airport to the UMSL campus via MetroLink. From the Lambert Airport Main or Lambert Airport East Metro station take an Eastbound train to the UMSL North station. Upon exiting the platform walk to the right and enter the Millennium Student Center (approximately 200 yards across Parking Lot E). Pass through the student center and cross the glass enclosed pedestrian bridge. Walk left across the central quad area to the far end, and enter the library complex on the South side. [Note: there is also a UM-South station, which is on a far section of campus]

A MetroLink ticket costs $2.50 (Two-Hour Pass/transfer $ 3.00). Current passes or validated tickets are required to ride MetroLink. [Price information current as of July 30, 2020] For further information, please consult the Metro St. Louis website.

The St. Louis Metro Transit system of light-rail and busses also provides access to many other St. Louis cultural attractions.

The Delmar-Loop Station (4th stop East of UMSL) for restaurants, clubs, coffee shops, and eclectic shopping.

The Forest Park Station (5th stop East of UMSL) exits about two blocks from the Missouri Historical Society Museum. MetroBus #90Southbound provides service to the St. Louis Zoo and St. Louis Art Museum, located further into the park.

The Central West End Station (6th stop East of UMSL) also provides a variety of restaurants and coffee shops.

The Union Station Station (8th stop East of UMSL) offers shopping and many restaurants located in the Historic St. Louis Union Station (this station exits directly into the complex).

The Arch-Laclede's Landing Station (13th stop East of UMSL) is a short walk from the Gateway Arch, the Museum of Westward Expansion, and St. Louis' Old Courthouse. Many restaurants are located along the the cobblestone streets of Laclede's Landing.
