The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) now offers high school students in Missouri the ability to kickstart their college careers by enrolling in online courses for college credit. Students are encouraged to ask their counselor about taking a Kickstart course in place of one of their high school courses. In these cases, the student may be able to simultaneously earn high school and college credit.Otherwise, students can complete their Kickstart courses at home or during a free period at their high school.
Kickstart courses are taught by UMSL professors and transfer as UMSL courses but only cost about 20% of the tuition. Textbook prices will vary.
Students of high school age, not currently matriculated at any college, may sign up for a maximum of one Kickstart course per semester. Students who have had success with dual credit online coursework usually have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and 8-10 hours per week to dedicate to their online course.
All Kickstart students have access to a personal Student Support Specialist, who can answer any questions about UMSL and can assist with questions related to transitioning from high school to college.
Kickstart is the sister program of UMSL’s fully accredited Advanced Credit Program, which offers dual credit to over 5000 students in the St. Louis area.
