Canned Wisdom
Native St. Louisan Dennis Bohnenkamp served the Honors College in some capacity, including as interim Dean, since its inception. He especially enjoyed creating new interdisciplinary courses and teaching them. Dennis spent many of his 23 years at UMSL in the English Department and as an advisor in a student retention program. He was the National Student Exchange Coordinator of the Campus. His publications include articles on physics and literature on drugs, alcohol and literature.
He earned his B.A. in Classical Studies/English and his M.A. in English at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He did further graduate study and teaching at The Center for the Study of Popular Culture at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He worked as a social worker, and as an administrator at the American Film Institute in Washington D.C. before coming to UMSL.
While Dennis passed away in June 2006, his spirit lives on in the hundreds of students' lives he touched, the Honors College he helped create, and the current students who benefit from the scholarship fund that bears his name. You can make a gift to support the scholarship fund online.
