The Dual Enrollment Program (DEP) provides advanced-level high school students the opportunity to take college coursework on UMSL's campus or online. Students use this option to expand on academic subjects that may not be available at the high school level, i.e. anthropology or philosophy, and/or to pursue individual interests. Students may select courses offered during the day, evening or online as long as all prerequisites are met. Successful DEP students will typically have a 3.0 or higher GPA in their core courses. Students who would like to take courses through the Honors College at UMSL, must have a 3.2 GPA and/or be participating in the Honors program in their high school.

The DEP is intended for high school students who:

  1. Have exceptional academic skills that surpass the course topics available at their high school (such as advanced math/science),
  2. Have unique academic interests,
  3. Are required to successfully complete a college course as a high school requirement, or
  4. Need to fulfill high school academic requirements to be able to accommodate more high school electives (such as jazz band or orchestra).

DEP students will be in college courses with fully-matriculated college students. Class size is dependent on the course and can range from 15 to 200. DEP students may not enroll for any individualized instruction courses such as independent study or directed reading courses, supervised research, etc.

Students who wish to enroll through the DEP must complete an application, provide copies of their current high school transcripts, have permission from their parent/guardian and from their high school administrator/counselor, and attend a required one-time only Dual Enrollment Orientation. Time and dates regarding orientation will be emailed to students after they send in their application and transcripts.

If the student intends to use the earned credits as part of their high school graduation requirements, that must be arranged by the student with their high school independent from UMSL.

Students are responsible for all tuition and fees associated with their Dual Enrollment course as well as purchasing any required materials. Students in the Dual Enrollment Program pay the same tuition and fees as regular UMSL students. There are a limited number of scholarships available.
