If you are thinking about starting a new business, this course will provide you with an overview of the critical first steps. You will assess your strengths and weaknesses in terms of business ownership, learn about the importance of planning, discuss legal and regulatory requirements, and identify sources of funding. Following this course, it is recommended that you register for The Basics of Writing a Business Plan.

Starting and Managing a Small Business in Missouri
Fee: $99

Learn the basics of starting and managing a business in Missouri in this course designed for those who are thinking about starting a business, have made the choice to start a business, or have been in business less than two years. You will learn about business ownership, planning for success, forms of business organization, legal and regulatory requirements, recordkeeping and information management, marketing, financing, and resources for assistance. Following this course, it is recommended that you register for The Basics of Writing a Business Plan.

The Basics of Writing a Business Plan
Fee: $49

Learn how to write a business plan or pump up an existing one. This course for new and existing business owners identifies the key components of a business plan, as well as detailing guidelines for style and appearance to help create a more professional look for your business plan. Following this course, it is recommended that you register for Financing Your Business if you plan to seek financing from a lender.

Financing Your Business
Fee: $49

Learn about various grant and loan programs, how the commercial lending process works, and what you can do to make your banking relationship a more positive one. This course provides information on financial assistance programs, the grant process, and Small Business Administration loan programs, including how to apply for these different types of funding.

Finding the Right Selling Price for Your Product or Service

This course will provide you with a template for calculating an overhead percentage for your business and show you how to incorporate the percentage into the selling price of your products and services. Two practical exercises will offer you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the seven-step pricing template. You will also learn how to create value in the eyes of your customers without focusing on price.

(1) Understanding Financial Statements

Learn how to identify key business information that is captured on an income statement and a balance sheet, as well as how to calculate liquidity, operating and profitability ratios, and understand what they mean in terms of business productivity and success. Get a handle on the financial side of your small-business operation. Learn how to turn financial statements into useful management tools, and take a close look at where cash comes from in a small business, where itÕs used in day-to-day operations, and how to identify and correct cash flow problems. At the end of this course, youÕll be able to identify key information on cash flow statements and to follow the path of cash as it travels through your company.

(3) Predicting Future Cash Needs

Learn how to use a cash budget to predict future performance of a business. In this course, business owners, managers, accountants, bankers, and consultants will learn how to estimate future sources and uses of cash, and how to analyze those predictions to makemore-informed decisions related to preparing for growth, realistic loan and financing requests, how much cash they can safely take out of the business, and making affordable purchases for the business.
