What UMSL has to offer

The fourth year of the professional program at the College of Optometry consists of six eight-week advanced clinical rotations (externships) in the core optometric discipline. One of the rotations must have an ocular disease emphasis and one must be in a large general clinical setting. These externships give students real-world experience and allow a chance to explore the breadth of the field of optometry.

The on-site accredited post-professional residency programs allow select graduates the opportunity to seek more intensive and specialized clinical experiences following completion of OD in two specialty areas: (1) cornea and contact lenses and (2) pediatrics and binocular vision. Practitioners enrolled in these programs are fortunate to work with our internationally known faculty in the above disciplines.
